Salastina, founded in 2010 by visionary violinists Kevin Kumar and Maia Jasper White, stands at the vanguard of redefining classical music's role in contemporary society. Committed to making classical music relevant and accessible, Salastina envisions a future where the beauty of the past harmonizes seamlessly with the dynamism of the present, inspiring generations to come.
At its core, Salastina is more than an ensemble; it's a cultural force that bridges tradition with innovation. Through a diverse array of programming, Salastina invites audiences to engage deeply with chamber music across multiple platforms. From intimate Main Series Concerts that explore both revered classics and hidden gems, to the groundbreaking Happy Hour series that blends live performances with casual conversation, Salastina cultivates a community where music thrives beyond concert halls.
The ensemble's impact extends beyond performance, with initiatives like Vital Sounds providing solace and healing through music in hospital settings, and Sounds Promising nurturing the next generation of artists through tuition-free education. Embracing modernity without compromising on artistic integrity, Salastina's blend of in-person and virtual experiences ensures that classical music resonates widely in today’s diverse landscape.
“As cacophony assaults us from all sides, Salastina keeps the flame of actual music burning bright.”

“Salastina was the favorite among the L.A. chamber groups nominated here, all with something of a new music bent. But for the seven core members of Salastina, contemporary compositions are just a part of the programming equation, in addition to classic works, film and television music, and even the occasional updated take on opera. It all fits in with the group’s goal of “broaden[ing] the definition of what classical music was, is, and can be.” For proof, look no further than Salastina’s popular series of Happy Hours, which sees the group taking home another award, ‘Best Streaming Performance or Series.’”
