Sounds Unknown (Westside)

  • The East Wing at the Broad Stage 1310 11th Street Santa Monica, CA United States (map)

What prevents so many composers from achieving well-deserved fame? Back by popular demand, Salastina’s Sounds Unknown explores a few of the many pieces that make you wonder.

Artistic Partner and Resident Host Brian Lauritzen has built a program around the idea of the Sound of America. When Antonín Dvořák, a famous Czech nationalist composer, arrived in 19th century America to help us create an "American Sound," he recused himself, proclaiming matter-of-factly that it was already here.

This concert explores America's musical voice from the moment of Dvořák's declaration to the present.

Program:
Antonín Dvořák: String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96 “American” - i. Allegro ma non troppo
